Some thoughts as we leave summer..

Having some ups and downs lately, mainly just keep swinging within a 1500 dollar amount back and forth, but I feel like I haven't been playing great solo and my partner keeps running like absolute shit in the 4 mans I've done, so no worries.

I golfed a 105 Sunday, despite starting out the round terribly. I ended with a 3, 4, 4, 6, 5 I believe, on 2 par 3s and 3 par 4s, so that was a solid finish.

I have these two golf lesson vouchers at the local golf store, but they fired their trainer a few months ago and had not hired a new one last I checked.

I would really like to golf 2-3x a week next year, I have a lot of fun on the course and that should really motivate me to work hard this winter.

As my work season closes, I've had a few ideas for next year:

1) I've been thinking about some reinvestment in my company. Some new equipment that would allow me to expand my customer base and probably make some more sense long term, value wise.

2) Perhaps hiring somebody to work the business for me. All I would need is one dedicated person and then an employee to work with them. I could take care of all the phone calls, some of the estimates and the paperwork very easily and efficiently and stay a few steps ahead of the game. I don't like "grinding the trenches" of the business, per say. It's really tedious to go out there and do jobs every day, I don't want it to be my life and I don't want to drive around doing jobs all day. This would be a good opportunity to train somebody that wants to learn how to run a business, and make them a few bucks during the summer. At the same time, I could stay focused on hopefully another business by spring....

3) I've kicked around a few ideas for another small business. I've had some fuzzy plans with a few people on a few things, but nothing has been definitive yet. I hope to have some sort of new business/interest by spring. If I can get up my volume poker wise, I could probably just start something solely on my own and justify taking any risk involved, but I don't think I'll have to take many risks if I invest in something. When I started my current business, I spent a few grand on an old pickup truck and bought the cheapest equipment I could do top quality jobs with. I spent 2-3x as long on some jobs bc my equipment was so limiting, but I got the job done with an initial investment of only a few thousand dollars, compared to 10-20k minimum that the "veterans" will tell you is needed. So in the case of my first "real" business, I didn't take on much risk.

So those are a few of the ideas I've been thinking about lately, and will continue to think about and hopefully shape into a plan soon.

Husng.com is being finished. I have a webmaster who is updating me along the way. I don't want to give a definitive date, but the plan is 3 weeks now. You will know when it is up, believe me. I've had a few people ask about making videos on the site or helping in any way they can, and you can email or PM me on 2p2 your info if you are interested.

I know I've talked to a few people about it in the past, and I don't want to make any concrete plans about who's involved and what is giong on until the site is actually done (I've done that too many times and have finally learned my lesson). Just know, if I've talked to you before I'm still interested in having you on board.

Collin Moshman's HU book just came out. I got my copy yesterday, but haven't read it yet. I, along with a few other forum members are in the acknowledgments. I just want to say that myself and at least one other prominent person in there didn't have very much to do with this book (as far as we know). I personally helped Collin with a very brief thing in the book, so the book is basically 100% his ideas, thoughts and knowledge, though I am sure he was influenced and aided by the 2p2 HU forum in many ways (and he also thanks the whole forum). I am going to lead a discussion and review on the book in the HU forum as early as today.

I'm kind of disappointed I didn't get into betting on this election cycle. I've watched a friend of mine making tremendous amounts of money off of this year's primaries and main election, and while I don't have the skills to take the positions and make the money he does, I'm sure I could have profited off of this in a decent way. I also enjoy politics, so a lot of the backwork is fun for me. Reading polls and crunching numbers in the political world is something I really don't mind doing and sometimes really enjoy. I think it's a little late for me to do much, it takes too long to get money on the sites I'd like to put money on, and there are only 40ish days left until the election, making my risk go up a great deal. Previously, if I take a few bad positions I can presumably counter those with good positions over time, but if I make a few mistakes this late in the game, I may not recover from them at all, there just may not be the ups and downs and inaccurate odds to take avantage of towards the end (I really think Obama will keep a firm lead in the last monthish. It's not hard to guage this, even on a non involved level, you will see candidates getting really desperate if they are too far back in the last few weeks. I think Palin was the first big gamble he had to take b/c he was down, and I still think it'll bite him. It seems the Palin bounce is about neutral now, she gave Mccain a huge boost coming out of hte convention, but her negatives have shot through the roof since then and Obama has taken back at least every bit of lead he had pre convention, according to all objective analysis.)

In the world of husng news.... other than Moshman's book coming out... Hokie and Primo both got dogs... Primo has moved to southern France... Bpmst2 (bcm's brother) has been moving up pretty steadily and seems to be doing well... xSCWx took 5th in the Sunday $215 hu mtt... Hokie has struck a deal with another player so that he plays the 300 regular speed games now... Whaassuuppp, a 200-500 regular, has created a blog (link on side)... Stevesbets seems to be back in the 5k games after winning the 25k Wcoop HU event... I'm sure everyone knows by now, but Livb has been playing the Stars 5k husngs under the name Adonis112 and has done fairly well by all accounts... Skilled_sox and Bcm11 seem to show no signs of letting up their domination in the 550-1100 buyin range, sharkscope has them each up near 30 thousand dollars in the last month...

That's all for now, good luck at the tables.

(Pics still to come, our brewery isn't done yet, sigh)

Update

Sorry about the lack of updates.

Moving was stressful and stuff, but worked out nicely. I'm so much happier in my new place.

Dboy and a few buddies stayed over for like 3-4 days during the move, making things more hectic but it was a good time.

I didn't get to play any games from like August 1st-14th, so I missed out on a lot of potential profit (fuck you Comcast) but I'm doing ok now.

I'll definitely put up pics, but I'm holding off until I get a new couch to replace our old 2nd couch we gave away, and until we finish our brewing setup. So probably by the end of the month.

I'll get to other things in the coming days, and will be updating much more frequently.
